December. A busy month in the lives of my family! December 1 is my cousin’s birthday. December 2nd – his mother’s. Both my parents were born on December 3, eight years apart. Her daughter got married on December 3, and her birthday is December 4. Both her boys were born in December. My birthday is the 21st, my sister was married in late December. In my church, there are at least 10 December birthdays. Oh, and Christmas is right there in the mix.
Sometimes, in the world we live in, but especially in the US, it feels like Christmas is just thrown into the season as to shop and spend money. But, as far as I am concerned, the focus, the reason, for all the hub-bub is not the tree, the lights or the presents.
The only reason for Christmas is in the word itself. CHRIST – Jesus, Messiah, Savior, LORD. The word means Christ’s Mass. A sacred time of worship and awe, that God Himself, in the fullness of His timing, planned the perfect plan for salvation for His people. For us. “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8
So, enjoy this wondrous season – the lights, the love, the family. But please don’t ever forget the One who came to die, so that you could live!
